Understanding the Time Lines of Breast Augmentation

by Terrye Tebbetts

I am continually amazed at how little women know about their surgery before they enter into an operation  – I think in this year alone, I have probably answered the following question about 200 times, but obviously it is still an issue and a question that still deserves an answer so that patients won’t be scared or think that something is wrong.

Question ~

I am now 4 weeks PO .I went from a AA to a size C with 391 silicone breast implants (unders).I was wondering at what point do I begin to feel like they have been mine forever.Right now ,they feel ,for lack of a better word, fake. Please tell me this will pass. Thanks for all the great postings,I have enjoyed reading them before and after BA.

Answer ~

I always prepare our patients for the following time frames: 4-6 weeks – they feel permanently pushed up 3 months before you can really go buy a bra and figure out what cup size you are 6-9 months – you will contiually experience weird nerve issues 12 months – the incision is as good as it will be and considered healed

We have an entire chapter in The Best Breast 2 devoted to helping you learn to live with your new breasts and helpful hints and bench marks to watch for along the way.

For me personally, I did not feel like they were truly mine until I was about 3 months post op. It is different for each woman, but trust me, they will settle in and you will forget that you have them in time. All you need right now is just alittle reassurance and some patience…..
