Question ~
I spoke with my PS this afternoon to make sure we are on the same page. My feelings are I want what I call “Goldilocks” boobs. WHat that means to me is that the implant fits nicely in the pocket that is made and that my skin isn’t stretched out too much- I want the implant to fit comfortably in the breast area…. hence “Goldilocks” (not to hot, not to cold, fitting just right
. I have not even discussed cup size with my PS b.c. cup size doesn’t mean anything to me (I know you are a big proponent of this too- I get that concept). It is important that the implant fits nicely for the alloted area and the breasts are more filled out (nicer appearance)- that more important to me than size. As I have read, the breast thins with age (I am 40) and I told my PS I want the implants for the long haul- therefore- a conservative approach seems like a reasonable approach to me (and him). With said conversation- he is going to order: Moderate Plus- 275cc (11.7cm) 300cc (12.0cm) High Profile- 300cc (11.1cm); 325cc (11.4cm )
Answer ~
The High Five Measurement System is meant to save patients and surgeons from making sizing errors the first time. It effectively, predictably takes 5 simple measurements and allows you and the surgeon to figure out the AREA of the empty space in the breast envelop. When simply filled, the breast is pretty, balanced, natural and is proven to cause the least risk of reoperation long term.
Other methods of choosing size do not factor in the patient’s own limitations. Sizers allow women to focus solely on what they WANT while ignoring what their body will safely allow. Achieving a really good result in Breast Augmentation, requires a balance between what the patient would like to see and what she can really have – it is what I do and work with our patients and try to help them with every day. I don’t think any woman goes into this saying “I want to destroy tissue and have 5 revisions!” – yet the current environment in plastic surgery has given women/patients the impression that they can just order up any result without real live consequences to tissue. So there is a balance that needs to be achieved between wishes and reality.
Once the breast envelop has been augmented ignoring the initial limits, all the basic anatomic landmarks are blown away and High Five is useless.
So if your ps had really used the High Five System, he or she wouldn’t be ordering 3 different sizes of implants. Using High Five give the ps the exact amount – the GOLDILOCKS amount – of volume that each breast should have!
