Dr. Tebbetts has been investigating the facts and scientific data regarding any possible association of breast implants with lymphoma or ALCL for more than a year, and is currently authoring a detailed scientific paper for surgeons that is pending publication in the most respected journal in plastic surgery. At the present time, Dr. Tebbetts and the FDA make exactly the same recommendation: Unless you develop an extremely large collection of fluid around your breast implant or have identified a breast mass, there is no reason to change anything about your breast implants or our approach to caring for you.
To quote the FDA: "If you have breast implants, there is no need to change your routine medical care and follow-up." You can find a link to the FDA's detailed document about this topic on our website thebestbreast.com, or you can email us and we will be happy to send you the link. We will continue to provide additional information on our website and blog as any new, scientific information becomes available.
FDA's overview, review of the literature and discussion of these cases can be found in the FDA document Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL) in Women with Breast Implants: Preliminary FDA Findings and Analyses.
